Slipped Disc Treatment

Slipped disc treatment can be performed by a patient at home itself with the consultation of a physician. Usually in these cases, packs of hot and cold are applied to the affected area of the back. This soothes the back muscles and pain killers in the form of over the counter drugs like Tylenol and Advil are recommended. A three day bed rest is advisable however resting for longer periods will cause the back muscles to atrophy. This could prove to be counter effective and is cautioned against. Most cases of slipped disc treatment involve an anti-inflammatory drug, a pain killer and a muscle relaxant in cases where the patient is plagued by back spasms. NSAIDs or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are commonly administered along with narcotics for pain relief. In some cases, steroids are given to the patient through an IV line. In about 95% of the slipped disc cases, steroids or surgery are not required. Those are rare procedures reserved for extreme cases in the case of slipped disc.
